Canadian Border Crossing Notes

Notes and Updates

  • English Proficiency statment: FAA has put off until March 2009 the FAA/ICAO requirement that the words "English Proficient" be on the certificates of pilots who fly across the border. Silly, especially since english proficency is already a requirement for FAA certificates. But it's only two bucks, so you'd best git 'er done before then if you plan to fly internationally. • Hillsboro Customs update: Hillsboro now has a customs office, open M-F noon-8pm, and at other times by appointment. The bad news is the fee: $60 for single engine aircraft,, so clearing at someplace like Bellingham is still probably your best bet.
  • Bellingham isn't carrying the customs stickers anymore, but you can apply for it when you clear so it's no big deal if you don't have one (and presumably the same at other ports-of-entry such as Friday Harbor.) Still, it's nice to have that done ahead of time, and you can purchase your decal advance.
